IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE PLAY
The Allen County Democratic PartyThe Allen County Democratic Party will present a Reader’s Theater style production of It Can’t Happen Here, a play by Tony Taccone & Bennett S. Cohen. It will be performed on Sun. April 19, 2026 at 2:00pm at Encore Theater.  It is a dark, satirical cautionary play about how American democracy can succumb to fascism through a charismatic demagogue who rises to power promising to restore greatness, only to establish a dictatorship, suppress liberties, and imprison critics. It highlights the fragility of freedom and the danger of public apathy. It shows how tyranny takes hold gradually until it’s too late, often while waving flags and using patriotic rhetoric.
It Can’t Happen Here is a play based upon the 1935 novel by Sinclair Lewis. It will be  directed by Alice Donahue & Kim Lane. It was originally staged in 1936 and was Commissioned and Originally Produced by Berkeley Repertory Theater in Sept. 2016. This play is sponsored by Brenda Rizor in memory of Paul Rizor with all proceeds to The Allen County Democratic Party.
Tickets are available for purchase securely through Act Blue. Tickets are $20 each or $10 each for Seniors & students. Mon. April 23 at 6pm at Allen Dems HQ. Come get your craft therapy on with an easy spring project in a relaxed, welcoming space or bring your own craft. Not crafty? No worries at all—our awesome volunteers, Katie & Deb, have you covered! Or just kick back, snack, chat, and enjoy time with like-minded friends. Everyone’s invited!
